Highlights from the HPC-SIG Hartree Meeting

The recent HPC-SIG Hartree Meeting brought together experts from across the UK research infrastructure community to share insights, discuss progress, and explore new ways to collaborate on national-scale digital research initiatives.

Federated Access Management: Building a Community of Practice

RCS Platforms Specialist Gwen Dawes moderated an engaging panel discussion on “Federated Access Management for UK DRIs: Building a Community of Practice.”

This session formed part of the NFCS Network+ project, which supports the adoption of MyAccessID — a federated identity solution designed to streamline access across distributed research infrastructures.

Panel members and attendees discussed challenges, shared experiences, and identified opportunities for building a sustainable community of practice around federated access in the UK.

AI Container Project Workshop

Following the main meeting, Head of Research Engineering Christopher Edsall and Principal HPC Systems Manager Deepak Aggarwal led a half-day workshop at the Hartree Centrefocused on the AI Container Project.

The session began with a lightning talk from Research Software Engineer Frederic Brochu-Williams, who set the scene by outlining the project’s goals and current developments. This was followed by an interactive Fishbowl panel discussion led by Senior HPC and AI Infrastructure Engineer Adam Walford, where participants explored the project’s work packages, shared experiences, and raised thoughtful questions to guide future collaboration.

Acknowledgements
